Jody
Anderman earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting
from Louisiana State University in 1985 and then attended
LSU Law School. After graduating from law school in
1988, where he was the recipient of the American Jurisprudence
Awards in Louisiana Civil Procedure and Louisiana Sales,
he began his legal career as a defense attorney with
one of Baton Rouge's largest law firms. Although he
gained valuable experience as a defense lawyer, he had
a strong desire to represent working men and women,
aggrieved consumers and others who have suffered significant
losses and began doing so in 1992.
Since 1992, Mr. Anderman has represented
thousands of individuals who have been injured in accidents
or exposed to hazardous substances. He has also represented
thousands of consumers who have been victims of fraud.
Most notably, he was lead counsel in several class actions
filed against insurance companies involving "vanishing
premium" life insurance policies. Many of those
cases resulted in multimillion dollar settlements. The
insurance cases were based on representations that monthly
premiums would vanish after a stated number of years.
Mr. Anderman was instrumental in negotiating settlements
valued at $70 million against National Life of Vermont,
$128 million against Allmerica Financial Life, and $69.4
million against Lincoln National Life Insurance Company.
Mr. Anderman was also lead counsel in a number of other
similar cases, all resulting in substantial settlements.
Mr. Anderman is currently involved
in the investigation and litigation of several environmental
toxic tort actions on behalf of individuals who have
been exposed to toxic chemicals and/or hazardous waste.
In one action, Mr. Anderman and other members of the
firm are representing over 3200 residents of a neighborhood
who have been exposed to creosote from a nearby wood
treatment facility. He is also currently involved, in
varying capacities, in a number of Securities Fraud
Class Actions including Xerox, Symbol technologies,
and Torch Offshore and is also currently handling a
variety of personal injury cases ranging from automobile
accidents to explosions to nursing home negligence.
Mr. Anderman is a member of the Baton
Rouge, Louisiana, and American Bar Associations, as
well as the Louisiana and American Trial Lawyers Associations.
