Benzene

Exposure to benzene greatly increases the risk of developing leukemia. Benzene is used as an "anti-knock" additive in gasoline, and it can be found in such common substances as paint, ink, adhesives, rubber, glue, old spot removers and furniture wax. Although The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends workers should not be exposed to more than 1 parts per ten million, it is difficult for some workers to escape the deadly toxin. For example, gasoline fumes have 1,000 times the concentration recommended by NIOSH. As a state that is heavily involved in the petroleum industry, many Louisiana workers are exposed on a daily basis.

If you would like to speak with someone concerning chemical exposure or an occupational related disease, you may discuss your particular situation with an experienced attorney at the law offices of LeBlanc & Waddell by telephone at 800-988-3514, fax at 225-768-7999, or contact us online.
